After winning two silver medals at Athens 2004 and the 2007 World Cup, Marta, the captain of the Brazilian women’s football team, hopes to claim an Olympic gold at Beijing 2008.

Marta said winning an Olympic medal would be “the most important prize”, and she would even give up her multitude of individual titles for this particular glory.

At the same time, the two-time winner of the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award is confident about her team, describing it as “stronger and better prepared psychologically”.

Brazil’s group opponents at Beijing 2008 include the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Nigeria and world champion Germany, and their first game against New Zealand is on August 6 in Shenyang.
